I’ll Admit It…
I'll admit it...I really thought that I would easily understand all of the intricacies of being a Teacher Author on TeachersPayTeachers... silly, silly, Rachel.

First, choosing a name for my store I thought was super simple...silly, silly, Rachel.  Thankfully I did my research and no one else has the name I chose, because I had many others in mind, but those were either taken, or mine was too close to theirs.  I love the name that I chose for my store, because it truly represents who I am as a teacher.

Secondly, I thought that because I love designing products, that they would be quick and easy...silly, silly, Rachel.  I was right about enjoying designing new products, however, it has consumed all of my thoughts! All I want to do is look for clip art and cute fonts, and this has somewhat distracted me from actually creating the products.  Yet, I am keeping an idea journal for products that I want to create, and being that I have only been a teacher author for less than a week, I'll have to admit that I am proud of myself for already posting three products.

Next, I thought that when I created something, that it would ALWAYS look the way I designed it when I downloaded as a PDF...silly, silly, Rachel.  I was so excited when I made my first product for purchase, "Rainbow Chevron Checklists," but what is in my store, is not what I initially created.  The original product, had an ombre effect (similar to what I have as my store banner), but for now I have accepted it, and plan to work on that in the future.

Finally, I was convinced that I would make a product one time, and I would never have to go back and change anything...silly, silly, Rachel.  For example, just today, I was in one of my favorite clip art sellers page, and I found that she has a store button to include on the terms of use page, and I had no idea.  When I created my products, I had included the store name and an image of her (from her page), because her downloads do not come with the button, I figured that she did not require one...silly, silly, Rachel.  So I had to go back in and change two of my products and repost them, because I did not credit her correctly.

I'll admit it, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into...but I am so excited to have started this journey and I cannot wait to see what new things I will learn and create!

Teaching while sick …           Of all the professions in the world (that are non-medical of course), I think that teaching may be the one that has the highest illness rate.  Why you ask???  Because we work with kids!  I have not been able to blog for the past several weeks, because I have been really run down.  Typically, I will start my day at the gym, teach all day, and then work for a couple of hours on TPT, and then finally unwind watching some TV after dinner.  BUT … over the past two weeks, I have barely been able to make it to school each day.           At the beginning of each school year, I tend to get sick, whether with a sinus infection, or with really bad allergies.  However, this year, my aliment is more of a general run-down feeling that does not want to leave me.  And I am comforted in knowing that I am not alone.  Dragging ourselves into school when we are sick, is something that we have all experienced.  And honestly, it is easier to come to work

Never Stop Learning...

Never Stop Learning… I teach my students to be lifelong readers and writers.   I do not just tell my students to do this, I show them that I too am a lifelong learner.   Andddd I definitely learned that was this week. I learn new things every day about Teachers Pay Teachers   and being a   Teacher Author.   THANK GOODNESS for YouTube! Without YouTube,   Instagram, and blogs, I may have given up by now. But I am determined.   One of the main things that I gained from this week’s journey, was being able to create a PowerPoint that can be edited, while still adhering to copyrights and permissions for fonts and clip art.   This is an option on many products that are created by GREAT sellers, and I was struggling with figuring it out. One of my own fatal flaws (that I am all too aware of) is needing to figure things out on my own.   Although it is a flaw, it is also a great way to learn; I learn by breaking things down {AND} through trial and error.   BUT...why work h

Time …          Everyone needs more time.  More time to sleep.  More time to lesson plan.  More time to grade.  More time for friend, family…YOURSELF!           We all need more time.  And the question we ask ourselves every day, is what do we give up?  What do we put off…again?  What do we sacrifice today?           There is no clear answer.  I have no miracle cure or remedy or solution to this problem.  Sure, we can make to-do lists.  I can tell you for a fact that I make a daily to-do list, and that MANY of those things don’t get crossed off, and then subsequently end up on tomorrow’s to-do list.           What I can tell you, is that I have learned from time.  I have learned to listen to my body when it tells me to slow down.  AND I learned this particular lesson the hard way two years ago.            Two years ago, I was about four months into my new teaching job.  I was building my Title I program from the ground up.  I was working at my part-time job as an
